Go hard or go home?

Lately, I have been thinking about how we approach our workouts and different strategies to get the most out of them.

I am always here to offer you another perspective when you unroll your mat. Not because what we are doing is wrong, but because we have options much like the gears on a bike. Hard and heavy, light as a feather and everything in-between. I think it's rare to consider that we have options in our energy output because we are taught "go hard or go home" in all things life, especially in our workouts.

What if our bodies, like our bikes, had different gears?

  1. Light, easy, minimal effort, as much as necessary, as little as possible.

  2. Focused, precise, steady and fluid.

  3. A deep search for more. The goal is to squeeze every last juice out of the orange and push the envelope.

The next step is to take a moment before starting a class or pushing play on your fave QB On-Demand workout to consider your mood and energy level. Then consider which gear suits your body and mind best that day.

With this approach, you can better gauge how you tailor your workout for your mood without changing the exercises. At QB, it's all about learning to listen to your body and nourish it with what it needs.

When we think about having a movement practice, I have seen success from folks who cultivate a daily or weekly habit. With life's many ups and downs mental and physical challenges, the "go hard or go home" mentality can stop you dead in your tracks from practicing because it might make you think, "what's the point?"

With the "gears" approach, you still practice if life (or your body) feels rough, but you adapt.

Every "gear" has its place, value and benefit for your body, and I hope you found this note useful for your next Pilates class.

Here’s a workout you can easily apply this approach to, go for it!
